(Developed based on internationally accepted policies of established long-term networks such as LBA, RAINFOR, The Nutrient Network and LTER)
Data collection will be carried out as per the standardized protocols shared at the onset to enable inter-site comparisons.
Data quality control is the responsibility of the site collaborators in conjunction with the nodal coordinator. Data will be strictly quality controlled at all stages: the data collection stage in field, the data entry stage and at the final database checking stage.
Databases shall be updated at regular intervals and to this end data including both photocopies of the field data sheets and soft copies of the excel data sheets will be made available by the site collaborators as per the time schedule agreed upon for data delivery.
While core research activities of the network must receive high priority, individual principal investigators are welcome to pursue additional research questions as long as it does not interfere with the advancement of core research objectives listed within the original proposal as this would jeopardize use of the core data for any analysis in all likelihood resulting in the site being dropped for future analysis.
Data shall be cooperatively analyzed by all scientists involved in obtaining them. Users of unpublished data will contact the data providers well in advance of producing and submitting a manuscript, in order to inform the providers of intended use.
Core manuscripts: For publications resulting from the core research objectives listed in the original proposal participants shall be entitled to automatic authorship based on data contribution to the LEMoN database unless some participants choose not to be on the authors list.
Other publications: All publications resulting from additional research activities shall be co-authored by participants who have made contributions to at least two of the following areas: a) initial conception and design of the study / experiment, b) development and framing of the research questions, c) acquisition, compilation and management of the data being utilized, d) analysis and interpretation of data and e) drafting the article and revising it critically for important intellectual content.
When data is used for modelling or large-scale integrating studies, the participants responsible for collecting the data will be credited appropriately, either by co-authorship or by citation. All data collectors will be informed of publication plans well in advance of submission of a paper, given an opportunity to read the manuscript, and be offered co-authorship. Users will have to state the source of the data.
Certain data sources such as e.g. satellite products, global meteorological data, etc., may be subject to copyright restrictions and it is up to the data users to make contacts with officials and institutions to ensure that the required agreements are in place prior to utilization of such data.
